    Grant Gould: Step Four

    STEP FOUR: After getting the base colors down, I begin shading. I tend to do each area separately, so for this drawing I did Apollo first, then Starbuck, then the background.

    I’ll walk you through the process with Apollo. On the original layer, I select all of the colored spaces on Apollo, except for the eyeballs. I like to leave the eyeballs white for now. Keeping the same pixels selected, I create a new layer, call it something like “Apollo Shadow,” then fill it with black.
