Comic Artists at American Illustration + Photography Party

James Jean drawing on the sketch wall at the Bernstein & Andriulli after party at the Fuse gallery

Last night was the annual American Illustration and American Photography party and it was just as fun as years past. Food, booze, dancing, networking, not to mention two walls filled with award-winning photographs and illustrations (two of which I art-directed, thank you very much). There were also several comic artists there — those rare few who make the crossover between editorial illustrator and comic artist — including James Jean, Koren Shadmi, Nathan Fox and Ward Sutton.

James mentioned a few interesting tidbits:

    1) That as much as he loves it, issue 6 will be his last cover of Gerard Way’s Umbrella Academy comic.
    2) He just did a mural for the Prada store in Soho. Watch out Paul Pope and your Diesel prints! You’re not the only comic artist that can do clothing stores.
